His expertise includes endoscopic ear surgeries, a technique he introduced at SGH in 2014, performing over 100 such surgeries with a focus on hearing loss and complex ear procedures.

Passionate about education, Dr. Tan Yau Boon Barrie has been involved in training the next generation of ENT surgeons. He served as the director of theCenterfor Hearing and Ear Implants at SGH for almost 7 years and directed the SingHealth ENT Residency Training Program from 2012 to 2014.

In addition to his clinical and educational roles, Dr. Tan Yau Boon Barrie is an administrative innovator. He co-founded the SingHealth-Duke NUS Head and NeckCenterin 2014 and played a pivotal role in developing multidisciplinary head and neck surgery capabilities.

Dr. Tan Yau Boon Barrie is not only a surgical innovator but also an advocate for community well-being. He actively volunteers at the Canossian School,providing ear health services to children with hearing impairment. His commitment extends internationally through medical mission work in countries like Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Vietnam, where he performs cochlear implant surgeries for deaf children.

Dr. Tan Yau Boon Barrie's outstanding achievements include receiving the President's Scholarship and winning the Gibb's Gold Medal during medical school. As the current president of the ASEAN Otorhinolaryngological (ENT) Head & Neck Federation, he continues to make significant strides in the field, both locally and internationally.
