Dr. Sriram Shankar is a surgeon who specialises in cardiothoracic surgery, adult vascular surgery, pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, and pediatric vascular surgery. Dr. Shankar is highly experienced in Adult Cardiac Surgery and performed over 1000 off-pump procedures for patients with Coronary Artery Disease. He is skilled in valve restorative operations for both children and adults, with vast experience in both. Dr. Shankar has achieved excellent results in treating aortic diseases, especially aneurysm surgery, and procedures for acute type 1 aortic dissection. Dr Shankar has also written and published several articles. Dr.Shankar is trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Middlesex Hospital in London and subsequently worked at the Brompton Hospital in London, Harefield Hospital in Uxbridge, and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Currently, he practices at Gleneagles and Mount Elizabeth Hospitals, and he also serves as a Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the National Heart Centre. During this time, he spent a year working with Dr. William J Brawn FRCS, and Dr. B Sethia, FRCS at the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. Dr. Shankar has helped in setting up the Paediatric Cardiothoracic service at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where he served as the Head of services until March 2009. Dr Shankar has received prestigious awards including Dr. Rama Rao Gold Medal in Anatomy in 1978, the First Prize of Honor in Microbiology in 1980, and the Service Quality Bronze in 2001. Dr Shankar moved to Singapore in September 1990 but returned to England in 1995 for further specialization.
