Dr. Koong Heng Nung is a general surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore. He is skilled at doing intricate procedures at the lower neck and higher thoracic regions. His specialty is thoracic surgery. General and breast surgery are two further areas of special interest for Dr. Koong. He served as the National CancerCenterSingapore’s top thoracic surgeon and the former head of the surgical oncology department. Dr. Koong served as a visiting consultant at Singapore General Hospital, National Heart Centre, and Changi General Hospital. He graduated from the National University of Singapore. He became a specialist in thoracic surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering CancerCenterin New York, USA, after earning his master degree in general surgery. He is a member of both the Edinburgh Royal College of Surgeons and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He was a senior staff member in Singapore who managed health services during three pandemics, including COVID-19. He works as an adjunct associate professor at Duke-NUS Medical School in addition to his clinical activities. He also gave seminars, workshops, and conferences both domestically and internationally as an invited faculty member, lecturer, and speaker. He has received several honors, such as the Humanity Award and the Service with a Heart Award. Dr. Koong was also the driving force behind Singapore’s smoke-free pub laws. He established the non-profit organization Tobacco Free Generation International as well as the social movement Tobacco Free Generation International.
