Dr. Ho Gay Hui has a special interest in breast surgery and specialises in performing surgeries such as breast-preserving lumpectomy, skin-sparing, and nipple-sparing mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and resection of a chest wall cancer recurrence. In addition, she performs various types of breast biopsies such as minimally invasive vacuum-assisted needle biopsy/excision, excision of milk ducts (microdochectomy), localization and excision of impalpable breast changes, and microcalcifications. She also treats benign conditions such as breast infection/abscess and gynecomastia. Before starting her private practice, she led the breast service at the National Cancer Center Singapore (NCCS). She trained in breast service in the department of surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA. Upon her return to Singapore, Dr Ho developed her interest in breast surgery. At NCCS, she established the breast cancer survivorship program to provide breast cancer survivors with holistic long-term follow-up care. She has more than 25 years of experience in the diagnosis and management of benign breast conditions and breast cancer. She was also the designated surgeon at NCCS for BreastScreen Singapore (the national breast screening program) and served on the accreditation team. She has received many awards for her dedicated care and commitment to patients, including the prestigious SingHealth GCEO Excellence Award, Outstanding Clinician Award, and the Healthcare Humanity Award. Dr Ho is also involved in breast cancer research and has published in many international journals including Cancer, Nature Genetics, Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, and Clinical Cancer Research.Besides her clinical work, Dr Ho was an adjunct associate professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and a senior clinical lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. She was also a clinical physician faculty member in the SingHealth general surgery residency program. She is passionate about public education on breast cancer screening, treatment, and survivorship, and has organized public forums, outdoor activities, and breast cancer survivorship workshops. She has spoken at breast cancer-related talks, contributed to articles in magazines, and participatedin media interviews on TV and radio.
