Dr. Chia Yin Nin is a gynecological oncologist who specialises in screening and treatment of gynecological cancers, such as the cervix, uterus, ovary, fallopian tubes and vulva, and precancer gynecological diseases. She handles various issues including abnormal pap smears,heavy or irregular periods, menstrual pain, ovarian cysts, uterine prolapse (sagging of the womb), and vaginal infections. Dr. Chia performs complex pelvic surgeries, such as open,laparoscopic (keyhole), and robotic surgeries. She performed the first laparoscopic radical hysterectomy in Singapore in 2011. Dr. Chia was awarded the Hoops Medal for distinction in obstetrics and gynecology and the Singapore Medical Association Bronze medal for excellent academic achievement for her MBBS. In 2008, she obtained her certification in gynecology oncology from the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Chia was formerly the deputy head of the Department of Gynecological Oncology and the head of the gynecological cancer unit of the Department of Gynecological Oncology at the Kandang Kerbau Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH). Dr. Chia is the president of the Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology of Singapore and a council member of the gynecology oncology subsection of the College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Singapore. She is one of the founding members and council members of the Asian Society of Gynecologic Oncology. She is also a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, United Kingdom. Dr. Chia contributes to the Journal of Gynecologic Oncology as a member of its editorial board. In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Chia worked as an adjunct assistant professor at Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore and she has received several teaching awards for her outstanding teaching skills. Dr. Chia's clinical research focuses on gynecological cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines and has participated in related landmark clinical trials. For instance, she was the principal investigator for the multicentre Bayer ovarian cancer 12007 study.
